Navigating the Interface

NorthSignal's interface is designed to stay out of your way. Here's a quick tour of the key areas.

The sidebar is your command center for managing conversations:

  • New Chat — The + button at the top starts a fresh conversation.
  • Chat List — All of your previous conversations are listed chronologically. Click any chat to reopen it.
  • Pinned Chats — Important conversations you've pinned appear at the top of the list for quick access.
  • Search — Use the search icon to find any past conversation by keyword.
  • Settings — The gear icon at the bottom opens the Settings Modal.

Chat Area (Center)​

This is where the conversation happens:

  • Message Thread — Your messages appear on the right, AI responses on the left.
  • Markdown Rendering — AI responses support full rich formatting: bold, italics, code blocks, tables, math equations, and more.
  • Copy / Edit — Hover over any message to reveal quick actions.

Input Bar (Bottom)​

The input bar is where you compose your prompts:

  • Text Input — Type your message. Press Enter to send (or Shift+Enter for a new line).
  • Model Selector — Below the input area, a dropdown lets you choose between Auto-Route (recommended) or a specific model. See Model Selector for details.
  • Reasoning Toggle — A switch that enables deep-thinking mode for complex tasks (slower but more thorough).
  • Attach File — The paperclip icon lets you upload files for the AI to analyze.
tip

For most users, leaving the model selector on Auto-Route is the best choice. NorthSignal's Intelligent Router will always pick the optimal model for your prompt.
