Personalization
NorthSignal is designed to adapt to your workflow. All personalization options are found in the Settings Modal (click the gear icon in the sidebar).
Custom Instructions (System Prompt)
Found under the Personalization tab, the custom instructions field lets you define a persistent system prompt that shapes every AI response.
Example use cases:
- "Always respond in bullet points."
- "I'm a senior React developer. Skip basic explanations."
- "Respond in Spanish."
Your custom instructions are sent as a system message with every prompt, regardless of which model handles the request.
Keep your custom instructions concise and specific. The more focused they are, the better the AI will follow them.
Theme Color
NorthSignal supports custom accent colors to personalize your workspace.
- Open Settings → Personalization tab.
- Choose from the preset color palette, or enter a custom hex code.
- The accent color will update across the entire interface: buttons, links, glows, and highlights.
The change is instant — no reload required.
General Settings
Found under the General tab:
Stream Output
- Enabled (default): Responses appear word-by-word in real time, giving you a "typing" effect.
- Disabled: The full response appears all at once after the AI finishes generating.
Enter to Send
- Enabled (default): Press Enter to send a message. Use Shift+Enter for a new line.
- Disabled: Press Enter for a new line. You'll need to click the Send button to submit.
Token Usage Statistics
The General tab also displays your lifetime token usage across all providers — a quick way to understand how much you've been using each model.
